The Mirrors Programme is still seeking 20 adult volunteers to become Committed Partners for a nine month period from November, 2013 – August, 2014. In addition, the Programme requires 10 adults to work as Residential Volunteers for a nine-day period. These volunteers are key to the success and operation of the programme.

When asked about the need for volunteers, Mirrors Programme Coordinator, Kim Jackson said, “It amazes me to see young people wanting something different in their lives. Now the call is to adults to support them through this transformation. We are asking our community supporters to call your friends, family, colleagues or anyone in your circle and refer them to Mirrors. We need 20 adults to step-up and make a difference in the life of our youth.”

As a Committed Partner, adults have the opportunity to support young adults to achieve the goals that they have set for themselves to accomplish during the nine month period.  To participate, a Committed Partner must complete a two and half day workshops to equip them with the tools required to support and coach a young person to success. Training for this volunteer role is set to take place on Friday, October 25th (6pm – 9pm); Saturday, October 26th (9am – 6pm) and Sunday, October 27th (9am – 6pm).

The Mirrors Programme is also seeking 10 adult volunteers to support the on-site residential phase of the programme.  The residential phase of the programme is a nine-day requirement for adults.  The role of the Residential Volunteer is to create an environment of community and support for the young adults as they complete the residential component of their programme.  Training for the residential volunteer takes place on Saturday, October 26th (9am – 6pm) and Sunday, October 27th (9am – 6pm).  The nine- day residential takes place from November 2nd – November 10th.

Mirrors graduate, Tahirah Butterfield said, “I remember when I completed the programme and what it was like to have someone support me in accomplishing the goals I was working on. My Committed Partner played a huge role in supporting me to develop and become the woman that I am today.  With the support of my Committed Partner my goals became a reality and I am able to stand as a strong, confident and responsible young woman.”
