Drivers are being urged to take more care on the roads after two school children were hospitalized this week.
A 12-year-old boy was injured on Monday at 4pm when he was hit by a van on Somerset Road in Sandy’s.
While today at 8am an eight-year-old girl was rushed to hospital after being struck by a car on St David’s Road in St George’s.
Both children were treated in hospital, however neither of their injuries were life-threatening.
The young boy was treated on the children’s ward at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and is in stable condition.
The two accidents prompted police to appeal to drivers and pedestrians to take extra care on the roads.
A police spokesman said: “Road users are advised to be more aware in the vicinity of schools and buses that are stopped on the roads after recent pedestrian related collisions resulting in injury.
“There are a myriad of reasons for these incidents including driver inattention and pedestrians failing to look before crossing the road. “However, the public is reminded that both pedestrians and motorists are responsible for using our roads safely.”
Police are appealing for witnesses to the two accidents to come forward.
Anyone with any information about Monday’s accident should contact PC Tiffani DeSilva on 234-1010.
