In the Hour of Victory, Bermudian filmmaker Lucinda Spurling’s film based on the book by Jonathan Smith, won Best Documentary at the Southampton International Film Festival this week.
The 80-minute film also won the Independent Theatrical Feature Films award at WorldFest — Houston International Film Festival, in April.
Mr Smith’s debut book In the Hour of Victory — The Story of Major Anthony F. ‘Toby’ Smith (2011) focuses on his grandfather’s love for his wife, Faith, and their family while stationed in Europe during World War II.
He drew on more than 300 letters his grandfather sent back to his family before he was killed in Holland, in October 1944.
