The Bermuda Insurance Institute will host the third annual conference for insurance market practitioners and their clients on October 17-18 at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess.
BII Council chairman Chris Fisher said: “We are pleased that His Excellency, the Hon. George Fergusson, Governor of Bermuda, will open the 2013 Conference.
“This will be the first year that a Bermuda Governor has attended the BIMC. We are also delighted that industry veteran, Michael Butt, O.B.E., Chairman, Axis Capital Holdings Limited, will be the closing key note conference speaker.
“Mr. Butt is a distinguished business leader with more than 45 years insurance industry experience.”
In between these two key figures, the audience will hear from senior local and international subject experts, and Bermuda clients.
Mr Fisher added: “2012 conference delegates requested an increase in the number of clients — Bermuda insurance buyers and/or international intermediaries — on panels.
Local brokers
“We acknowledge local brokers and underwriters who invited clients visiting Bermuda during the conference dates, to participate in panel discussions. We appreciate those clients who are able join us, and we also appreciate the volunteer engagement of local industry experts who readily agreed to lead and participate in the sessions.”
Some of the subjects that will be examined in the 2013 BIMC include: US Healthcare Reform Implications and Opportunities; Terrorism Risk Insurance Act update; Cyber Liability — Introduction, hot topics and Bermuda’s role; Claims Update; The Arbitration Process; Reinsuring Bermuda Markets; Employment Practices Liability — Wage & Hour exposures; Bermuda Business Development Corporation – Insurance Focus Group Update.
Meanwhile, the Bermuda Insurance Institute (BII) hosted their annual Student Recognition Luncheon at the Harbourfront Restaurant, with over 140 people receiving more than 160 insurance designations. Michael McGavick, CEO of XL Group Plc, Chairman of the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR) and Chairman of the Geneva Association provided the key note address. n
