Outerbridge: ‘I can’t play

National team cricket captain Stephen Outerbridge cleared the air on his eligibility.  

Outerbridge said he can’t play in Bermuda’s upcoming matches against the US and the ICC Tournament in  Dubai in November. 

A report in a newspaper suggested he was informed via a text message he was no longer captain of the squad.  

He said in a press release: “The reporting from one of Bermuda’s leading newspapers was totally inaccurate. The truth is that I have informed the president, CEO and national coach that I am unable to participate in the upcoming series due to personal commitments.”

Bermuda Cricket Board president Lloyd Fray said:  “Claims that the Board removed Stephen from captaincy by a text message are complete nonsense. Nothing could be further from the truth. The facts on this matter are quite clear and transparent.” 

Distraction

Mr Fray said the stories in the media had been a distraction as it prepares for its upcoming matches. 

The final trials are on October 7 and a new captain will be appointed by no later than October 11. 

The squad leaves on Friday, October 18 for a three-match series against USA returning to Bermuda on October 21. The squad leaves Bermuda for Dubai on November 8 for the ICC tournament. n
