Post Office: Guidelines for importing goods
The Bermuda Post Office (BPO) would like to advise the public that the BPO acts as an agent for HM Customs for the collection of duty on goods received through the post office.
If you receive a notification from the post office indicating “value required”, you must produce the actual invoice when collecting your package and pay the required duty as per the Customs Revenue Act 1898.
If you do not have an invoice you may provide the Post Office with a vendor or manufacturer estimated retail value for the item or similar product. This can be obtained from the Internet and presented in lieu of the actual invoice.
There is a $30 duty free allowance on gifts received from overseas via the post office. For gifts estimated to exceed $30 in value, the provisions as set out in the above paragraph apply.
If you have a reason to believe you are not liable for duty on any goods received, the Post Office will be happy to arrange for a HM Customs Office to inspect the package in your presence to determine whether the contents are subject to duty.
The Bermuda Post Office would also like to remind the public that the following items are available for sale at post office locations island wide: stamps, stamp booklets, First Day Covers, BPO souvenirs and collectors items, assorted shipping boxes, mailing tubes, mail boxes, bubble wrap and business envelopes.
For more information on services provided by the Bermuda Post Office please visit www.bpo.bm or visit the Bermuda Post Office Facebook page and make us your number one choice for mail delivery to and from the Island.
