Take a look inside the new Pier Six Complex
The Pier Six Hamilton Waterfront Complex is open and ready for various events including parties, weddings, concerts and much more.
An open house is being held today at the location where members of the public can tour the newly renovated space, complete with an iconic tent structure on the porch of Pier Six.
The complex is a public private partnership between the Whitfield Group and the Corporation of Hamilton.
Suzie Pewter, of the Whitfield Group gave the Bermuda Sun a tour of the facility – the main building, the structure outside and the renovated cruise ship terminal down below.
She said the space is available for conferences, parties, events, weddings, receptions and is available for use by anyone in the community.
“I think the point to get across is the private and public sector have come together and made this happen.
“This is what Bermuda need to go forward in the development of this country.”
Ms Pewter said the space caters to a large amount of people, with up to 1,000 inside the iconic structure.
The structure is also fireproof, mildew resistant and can stand 100 mile and hour winds.
“Everything can be customized. If you want 800 chairs because there’s a concert, you rent what you need”, she added.
Ms Pewter also said the entire project was handled by Bermudians, aside from an engineer from Tentology, a Canadian company. Eight Bermudians were trained under him to erect and take down the structure.
Graeme Outerbridge, Mayor of Hamilton said: “I this it’s better than the concept on paper and that basically it’s going to bring a vibrancy to Front Street to give Hamilton a taste of what our waterfront transformation can be about.
“This city council board took a brave step to make this public private partnership happen.
“We had the added bonus of creating a new cruise ship terminal.
“It really was particularly rewarding that the council came together to support this novel concept.”
