Anytime you do something for the first time, you’d like it to be successful.

And the Bermuda Insurance Institute can lay claim to that after its inaugural Leadership Programme was completed this month.

The programme was developed by the Bermuda Insurance Institute (BII) and the Wharton School of Business.

Colleagues and supporters of the 25 participants, representing a variety of companies in Bermuda, recently attended a closing ceremony for the intense two-week programme the Fairmont Hamilton Princess.

During the two week programme participants had the benefit of instruction from world renowned Wharton faculty.

Participants also had the opportunity to engage in question-and-answer sessions following panel discussions with the following local business leaders: Brian O’Hara, former chairman of XL Capital Ltd, Michael Butt, chairman of the Board of Axis Capital Holdings Ltd, Neill Currie, CEO of RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd, Jill Husbands, head of office for Marsh and Mc Lennan Co. Ltd, and Philip Butterfield, chairman of the Board of HSBC Bank Bermuda Ltd.  Panelists shared their experiences, wisdom, and offered leadership advice to the participants.

Dawnnelle Walker, CEO of the BII, said: “I have often stated that the BII is on a journey to reach world class status in the area of training, development, and assessment services.  Partnering with Wharton and successfully executing the leadership programme bring us one step closer to reaching our goal.”
