Middle School and High School girls across the island are invited to participate in an education symposium aimed at saving them from the results of bad choices and the effects of detrimental environments.

The Delta Sigma Theta Bermuda Alumnae Chapter will host the event tomorrow evening from 6pm to 8pm at St Paul’s AME Church on Court Street.

The forum, The Triple Link to Saving Our Girls is specifically geared towards young ladies in Bermuda.

Kara Simmons, chair of the event said: “Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated Bermuda Alumnae Chapter has joined forces with diverse individuals, service based administrators, and community based organizations to host a Public Symposium entitled, ‘The Triple Link to Saving our Girls’.

“This educational symposium is centered on young women and issues with crime, education deficiency, teen pregnancy, drugs, gang involvement and family issues.”

The forum will be a three-part event:

  • D - Discussing the issues (Panelist discussion)
  • S - Strategizing for a better tomorrow (Question & Answer period)
  • T - Targeting actions that create change (Organizational Consultants)

The panel for the night will include a prison officer, social worker, a parent who has been impacted by gang violence and a teenage mother.

Panel members will discuss how the matters mentioned above have direct implications on young girls and how various agencies can coordinate efforts and solutions to combat the negative effects.

Audience members will furthermore have chief involvement throughout the evening.

Students who attend the Symposium will receive community service hours.

Light Refreshments will be served.
