Tall Ship will take in Bermuda Day festivities

The tall ship Sorlandet is paying a flying visit to Bermuda on her voyage north to Nova Scotia.

The Norwegian training vessel is believed to be the oldest full rigged ship in the world still in operation.

Its distinctive white hull arrived on the island yesterday from the Caribbean and pulled up alongside in Hamilton.

She has visited Bermuda for the last two years and is scheduled to stay here until Friday when she heads north.

The Sorlandet is operated by Class Afloat and is designed to give young sailors experience on the open sea across the globe.

She has about 50 international students on board with a further 20 full-time crew and teachers.

Meanwhile there’s a steady flow of cruise ships into the West End this week.

Hamilton hosted the Prisendam on Monday for her second short call in the space of just a week.

The mega-ship Norwegian Breakaway makes her second trip to the island today and will be followed into Dockyard by the Celebrity Summit.

Then on Sunday the Norwegian Dawn is back again from Boston for her fourth trip of the year.

The Bermuda Islander is back in tomorrow and will be followed by the Oleander on Sunday afternoon.

And finally the car carrier Venus Spirit makes up the shipping news for this week — she is expected to arrive in Hamilton at 7am on Friday and leave four hours later for her next port of call.
