Roger Gillett was honoured last Thursday night with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Bermuda Insurance Institute.
But he as an added surprise ACE Bermuda announced they will make a $5,000 donation to the BII to set up the Roger Gillett Training and Development Room in the BII’s new premises.
Also receiving awards on the night were Stephen Catlin, founder and CEO of Catlin Insurance, for BII’s Insurance Leader of the Year and Chris Estwanik, VP at Validus, for Young Industry Leader of the Year.
Rees Fletcher, division president at ACE Bermuda, said in a press release: “We wanted to recognize our former colleague and at the same time make a permanent and meaningful contribution to the local industry in his honour.
“A donation to the BII in Roger’s name will not only recognize his achievement but also support Bermuda’s insurance industry into the future. We understand that the BII will be moving to new premises and ACE’s donation will be used to create the Roger Gillett Training and Development Room.”
Dawnnelle Walker, CEO of the BII added: “We, at the Bermuda Insurance Institute (BII), are pleased that Roger Gillett was selected for the Lifetime Achievement Award. Roger has given many years of dedicated service to the Industry and continues to promote the Bermuda Market. Roger is a past president of the BII and is still an active member of our governing council.
“We truly appreciate his advice and support. The BII is delighted that ACE, one of our platinum member companies has provided this financial gift to honour Roger’s accomplishments and support the BII’s goal to move into a world class, purpose built facility.”
Mr Gillett worked at ACE for 10 years. He joined in 1997 as senior vice president, Business Development, becoming executive vice president with responsibility for the management of ACE Bermuda’s captive operations in 2002.
He was appointed president of the newly created ACE Risk Management International (ARMI) in 2003, a role he held until he retired in 2007.
