Press Release

Today, Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited (BELCO) and the Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) presented cheques to the participants of the eleventh annual BELCO Cup which was held last weekend.

BELCO Chief Operating Officer, Denton Williams congratulated Southampton Rangers for their eighth victory in this year’s BELCO Cup. Rangers won the cup back after defeating BELCO Cup hosts St. David’s in the final match. Dion Stovell was named Man of the Match for his innings of 29 runs and for bowling six overs which saw the loss of five wickets.

Prize cheques were presented to the following:

• Winners – Southampton Rangers -- $1,500

• Finalists – St. David’s Cricket Club -- $1,000

• Semi-finalists – Willow Cuts Cricket Club and Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club -- $500 each

• Man of the Match – Dion Stovell -- $300

The Bermuda Cricket Board National Youth Academy was chosen as the charity recipient to benefit from the gate proceeds of the final this year. The National Youth Academy provides Bermuda’s talented young cricket players with a comprehensive programme to develop their skills while also providing them with the tools they need to become well-rounded members of the community. The Umpires also generously donated their fees from both days. As a result, BELCO presented a cheque to Bermuda Cricket Board for their National Youth Academy.

As Cup sponsor, BELCO also presented a cheque for $3,000 to the Bermuda Cricket Board.
