Premier Craig Cannonier celebrates his 50th birthday on Friday.
His daughters, Mikaela Ian Pearman and Samaela Cannonier compiled a list of 50 things you didn’t know about him.
We hope you enjoy learning some new, fun and off the wall facts about your premier.
1) Nicknames over the years include Dragon, Cannon Ball and Boxhead.
2) Had to work after school at the age of 13 to help out his mother.
3) Shares the same birthday as former Premier Dr Ewart Brown.
4) Plays the alto saxophone and played Kenny G’s The Wedding Song at many weddings in the 90s.
5) Was a male model while in school in the Baltimore/Washington DC area.
6) Has collected centipedes for years. I guess it has something to do with being a St David’s Islander.
7) Played football as a child and was the captain at St George’s Prep.
8) Was also captain of the gymnastics team at St George’s Prep.
9) Born premature at only four pounds.
10) First name is Legay, which is also his father and son’s name.
11) Had a Korean roommate in boarding school.
12) Will only eat three flavours of ice cream: chocolate, vanilla or strawberry.
13) Has been to the Super Bowl twice.
14) Favourite team is Washington Redskins from going to school in Maryland.
15) Graduated from Townson State University where he majored in Psychology.
16) Went to Redskins games often with his Uncle Donald.
17) One year at a game, they gave out Redskins Christmas Bulbs. He walked around the whole stadium collecting bulbs. Needless to say, our tree was all Redskins that year aside from the star at the top.
18) Father of three children — Mikaela, Samaela and Trae — and one step-daughter Lakilah.
19) When we were younger, he used to sing “Rise and shine in the house of Cannonier” every morning with my mom to wake us up.
20) Loves cruising. Went on his first in 1988 and just enjoyed a two-day voyage on the Norwegian Breakaway.
21) Will eat a banana with every meal.
22) Chocolate bars are his favourite midnight snack.
23) Cooks the turkeys for Christmas and Thanksgiving.
24) Has owned many types of birds and fish.
25) Grew up in Flatt’s and St David’s with his mother Margo and sister Gay Lynne.
26) Graduated from Blue Mountain Academy, an Adventist boarding school in Pennsylvania. His son Trae also graduated from BMA.
27) Owns a boat and a motorcycle.
28) Loves bacon and probably eats too much of it.
29) Had a hair tail while in school.
30) His first job after graduation was at MarketPlace.
31) Was the opening bowler for St David’s Cricket Club after returning home from university.
32) Went to St George’s Prep and Bermuda Institute.
33) Worked as the manager of People’s Pharmacy.
34) Has a collection of old coins, collected over the years.

36) Makes a mean banana bread that makes those who don’t like banana want to eat it.
37) Played commercial league cricket as an adult.
38) When we were children, he used to make giant kites for us at Easter.
