Letter: Dr Brown is rightfully unapologetic about his counter-racist philosophy
Dear Sir,
When Larry Burchall writes [BDA Sun May 3] that Premier Dr Ewart Brown’s legacy was one of “bitterness and revenge”, I wonder what it is about the former Premier that really bothers Mr Burchall.
Surely Dr Brown’s legacy could be fairly described as “controversial” or “exciting” or “anti- colonial”, but “bitter?”...I don’t think so.
Bermuda’s seniors who received Future Care, licence fee exemption and access to overseas health care didn’t see Dr Brown as “bitter” or “revengeful”.
One possible explanation for Mr Burchall’s bitterness towards Dr Brown is that he describes himself as “unblack” (whatever that means), while Dr Brown is unapologetic about what he calls his “counter-racist” philosophy.
Whatever his rationale, I think Mr Burchall owes those of us who supported Dr Brown before, during and after his Premiership an apology.
