Bermuda’s Walking Man Damon Fox has helped to raise more than $500 by taking part in the Catlin End-to-End.

The serial wanderer completed the 24-mile course in an incredible five hours and 15 minutes despite the blazing sunshine.

And in so doing he helped ensure the $570 he had been sponsored by several generous donors would go towards seven local charities.

Mr Fox joined hundreds of other walkers taking part in the annual event at King’s Square in St George’s at 8am on Saturday for the start of the walk. He blitzed a trail out of the Old Town, through Hamilton Parish and on to Smith’s, barely stopping to draw breath.

His strategy of walking and then running saw him cross the finishing line at Dockyard at just after 1pm where he was presented with his Catlin End-to-End medal.

His walking and fundraising exploits also got him a special mention on the End-to-End website.

End-to-End committee member, Chris Burns, said: “We are amazed by how successful the event has been this year.

“We had another record-breaking year with over 2,700 people taking part.

“It is wonderful to see Bermuda pulling together in tough economic times to help support people at risk in Bermuda.

“Damon was a great addition to the event this year.

“So many people were happy to see him out there and his participation helped raise $570, which is a fantastic result.

“Hopefully he’ll be a regular fixture for years to come.”

The money raised by Mr Fox and the thousands of other participants in Saturday’s event will be divided between the Adult Education Centre, Coalition for the Protection of Children, Family Centre, Greenrock, The Reading Clinic, SCARS, Westmeath, WindReach and Women’s Resource Centre.
