Premier Cannonier was enthusiastic in his praise of the new Norwegian Breakaway as she was christened in New York City today.

The Premier and Tourism Minister Shawn Crockwell were in attendance at the exclusive, invite-only event.

The Breakaway will be in Bermuda at Dockyard next Wednesday.

Some of the Premier’s speech was difficult to discern to the live web audience as the both the audio and video dropped out.

But Premier Cannonier did tell the audience in the Norwegian Breakaway’s theatre: “This is truly an experience. On behalf of the people of Bermuda… we are excited about what you have created here.

“This is unbelievable that you can build something like this on the water. I am just amazed at this — incredible.”

He added that everyone on board was “going to have a wonderful time on this ship”.

The Premier concluded his speech in a relaxed tone: “I’m going to take off my tie and I’m going party… and to Norwegian Cruise Line we say ‘thank you’ for such a wonderful occasion.”

The ceremony was attended by many dignitaries including the Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Perry Christie, New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg, Norwegian Cruise Line CEO Kevin Sheehan, The Rockettes, ‘Cake Boss’ Buddy Valastro and Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian.
