The Ministry of Finance today announced that Major (Retired) Allan Wayne B. Smith, E.D. has been appointed as the new Postmaster General, effectively immediately.
Major Smith retired from the Bermuda Regiment in 2008 after serving for 22 years. He has held a variety of positions in both the Civil Service and in the private sector, such as: Director of Labour and Training; Policy Analyst; Coordinator, Security Services; Executive Director for the Bermuda Alliance for Tourism, Aide de Camp to His Excellency the Governor.
He has also worked at the Bermuda Department of Tourism, in Banking (both BNTB and Bank of Bermuda), wireless technology, information technology, formerly for the Ministry of Works and Engineering (now the Ministry of Public Works) and in real estate.
Major Smith has a Masters Degree in Business Administration, a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and has attended numerous courses, seminars, and professional development conferences.
Major Smith has been the Acting Postmaster General since November 1, 2011 and as part of his role as Postmaster General; he will lead the reinvention and restructuring of the Bermuda Post Office (BPO).
He resides in Smith’s Parish with his wife and son.
