An event for “culturally curious and globally minded” individuals is being organized in an effort to unite Bermuda’s business community.

Odiva Vassell is launching the networking event in association with the online networking community InterNations.

InterNations hosts events in more than 195 countries across 360 plus cities worldwide and aims to connect like-minded people in a professional capacity.

Bermuda’s inaugural event will be held at Victoria Grill on Wednesday, May 8 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm and will include live entertainment.

InterNations networking parties attract a mix of professionals invested in international industries, and entrepreneurs.

Vassell told the Bermuda Sun: “You may be looking for new business contacts, cultural information exchange, or just enjoy meeting new people. InterNations’ policy is to make sure everyone feels welcome whether they are new to a country or just new to InterNations. We ask all attendees to make an effort to interact with everyone, especially those they have not met before.”

Vassell hopes the event will boost membership to the online network community InterNations which allows members to connect not only within their own countries but globally.

“The more your network grows the more opportunities arise,” she said.

Vassell decided to get involved in InterNations after moving to Asia where she found it difficult to break into the tight, local circles.

She said: “When I was in Japan it wasn’t easy to interact with the Japanese until I got the language down.

“Then I moved to Korea and had to start all over again. The Korean people tended to stay in their own group of friends — they didn’t make any effort to meet foreign people. I looked online and I found the InterNations website. They welcomed me to Korea and invited me to an event. It was fantastic because you meet so many people. The motto is “no one stands alone”. They try to encourage you to interact — you are busy meeting people, talking, sharing ideas, finding out what you have in common. I never met less than ten or fifteen new members at each event. Those members, whether it is social or business networking, they invite me to other events.”

For more information or to register call 704-7555 or email [email protected]. Registration for this event is free and gives you access to various prizes and drink specials, and membership in the www. InterNations.org network. Dress code is business/casual attire.
