Paperwhites hosts talk on homeopathy and infertility

For some couples, getting pregnant isn’t as easy as you’d think.  There are those of us who struggle with or marvel at the stories of women who say they got pregnant the first time they tried. When you are dealing with infertility these stories seem like myths or fairy tales. Months and months pass by and we are left grieving in the wake of failed attempts to create a family. In desperation we seek medical advice which is often filled with pharmaceuticals and invasive procedures. While this path is fine for most, some prefer to take a more holistic path to try to achieve a pregnancy.

In my journey to become a mother, I went through the gauntlet of medical procedures and tests.  I had been “diagnosed” with unexplained infertility.  This means that with all of their science, the doctors couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t getting pregnant.  Fed up with the little amount of help I was receiving, I turned to a more holistic approach.

I started with yoga, thinking this would help me become more in tune with my body. I added acupuncture and herbs. I went for abdominal massages. I meditated. I changed the way I ate, slept, and dealt with emotions. I cleansed.  I posted positive messages around my house and attended support group meetings. Eventually something fell into place and I got, and stayed, pregnant.

Since then I have learned of another avenue I wish to pursue before trying for another child — homeopathy. During a prenatal yoga class I attended last year we were visited by Alison Broadley. She is a homeopath who visits the island and sees clients several times per year.  She gave an interesting explanation of some of the benefits of her field.

With rates of infertility skyrocketing to up to 33 per cent in some Western countries, it seems like more and more couples are having difficulty. Homeopathy has shown to help both men and women become more fertile. In one study of women who worked with a homeopath, nearly 60 per cent showed improvement in factors important to achieving pregnancy, such as regulation of hormones, regulation of the menstrual cycle, and enhanced ovulation. In men it showed an increase in the number and quality of sperm cells.

If you are struggling to conceive and wish to learn more about how homeopathy can help you, you can attend a special meeting of the infertility support group, Paperwhites. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 7 from 6-7:30pm at Spirit House, Devonshire, and is free of charge.  Ms Broadley will be giving a presentation on fertility and homeopathy and is able to answer questions. You may also contact her directly at [email protected], or visit www.healthcoop.net for more information.

In keeping with the theme, Paperwhites will be having a presentation from My Sereni-Tea during the June 4th meeting. They will be discussing with us the holistic options they have available to help with fertility.
