Bermuda’s walking man Damon Fox will take to the roads this weekend and join thousands of other islanders for the End-to-End.

Mr Fox regularly notches up hundreds of miles a week by wandering from one end of the island to the other.

His inspiring story in the Bermuda Sun had such an impact on organizers that they invited him to take part in this year’s event for free.

They have now set up a page where islanders can sponsor the 37-year-old — who is a familiar sight on the islands’ roadsides.

Mr Fox hopes to be one of the first to make it across the finish line in Dockyard this Saturday.

He says he’s looking at a time of around six hours to complete the course — and few would bet against him.

Thousands of bikers, walkers, swimmers and even rowers have already signed up for the 26th Catlin End-to-End.

This year all the money raised will go towards the Adult Education Centre, Coalition for the Protection of Children, Family Centre, Greenrock, The Reading Clinic, SCARS, Westmeath, WindReach and Women’s Resource Centre.

In 2012, participants raised a staggering quarter of a million dollars for the chosen charities.

End-to-End committee member Chris Burns told the Bermuda Sun: “Preparations for this year’s Catlin End-to-End are going very well.

“There seems to be a real buzz about the event this year. It is always hard to follow up a big anniversary event like last year but the registrations so far this year are almost on par, which is fantastic.

“Face-to-face registration is now open on the bottom floor of Washington Mall and we would like to encourage as many of our residents to take up the challenge and help raise much need funds for our local charities.”
