Asthma sufferers - Little Things Make a Big Difference
World Asthma Day will be marked with an educational event by local charity Open Airways on the steps of City Hall next Tuesday.
This year’s theme is Little Things Make a Big Difference which aims to highlight that small changes can improve the condition of asthma sufferers as well as help to prevent asthma.
There will be free giveaways on the day including pillows, spacers and micro-fibre towels — all of which can play a part in improving the health of asthma sufferers.
Liz Boden, of Open Airways, said: “People think they just have to live with asthma but they don’t — asthma is treatable.
For example — buying a new pillow every year, opening windows every day, encouraging children to play outside and not sit in front of a TV or a computer screen for hours leading to low levels of vitamin D, has been proved to decrease your chance of getting asthma. Don’t use chemicals and fresh air sprays in the home — do use microfibre cloths etc.”
Open Airways encourages everyone who has asthma to get out into the fresh air and enjoy an Hour of Air and celebrate the joy of breathing freely on World Asthma Day.
The event takes place on Tuesday, May 7 from 11:30am to 2:30pm. There will be asthma education as well as lung function tests for smokers and former smokers over the age of 40.
