Bermuda won has its first gold medal of this year’s Carifta Games.
Madelyn Moore won gold in the 50 Meter Backstroke Girls 11 to 12 last night.
She swam at a time of 32.84.
Mathilde Campbell and Celia Peiter followed with silver and gold.
In the boy’s races, Jesse Washington won bronze in the 100 Meter Butterfly Boys 13 to 14.
He swam at a time of 1:01.17.
Adrian Goin took gold and Cedric Blokland won silver.
The swimming competitions are taking place in Jamaica while the track and field portion is in Bahamas.
Bermuda now has four medals with Kyrah Scraders and Sakari Famous both winning silver yesterday.
Two Bermudian track & field athletes have snatched medals at the 2013 Carifta Games in the Bahamas.
Sakari Famous, 13, won the first medal for the team – silver - in the Girls High Jump Under 17 yesterday.
Famous jumped 1.65 meters.
Gold went to Britny Kerr of Jamaica and bronze to Shiann Salmon of Jamaica.
Bermudian Quaashie Douglas finished 5th clocking in at 5:42.44
Kyrah Scraders then won silver for the team in the Girls 1500 Meter Run Under 17.
She ran a time of 4:39.43.
Cassey George from Guyana won gold and Britnie Dixon from Jamaica won bronze.
The games started on Friday and finish Monday at the Thomas Robinson Stadium in Nassau.

Shadow Sports Minister Michael Weeks today extended congratulations to Bermuda’s Carifta team for their string of successes on the first day at the Carifta Games.
Mr. Weeks said, “The opportunity to represent Bermuda on the world stage is an honour and a privilege that our young people have embraced admirably. On behalf of the people of Bermuda, I wish to acknowledge the hard work, sacrifice and dedication that have seen several medals awarded and a spirited sense of competition throughout the course of the Carifta Games. From Sakari Famous our first medalist in this games; Madelyn Moore and Jesse Washington, who won the Gold and Bronze Medals in the Carifta Swimming Championships in Jamaica, to Kyrah Scraders who won the silver medal in the Under 17 1500 meters, the first day of competition has been great for our athletes and for Bermuda.”
