Destination Dockyard to continue this summer
Destination Dockyard is to continue this summer every Monday evening from 7pm to 10pm.
Entertainment will include a diverse range of local talent with an element of competition, prizes, family and youth activities and shopping.
West End Devdelopment Corporation will be hosting the attraction in partnership with EPM Management over 18 weeks.
A spokesperson for WEDC said: “The atmosphere promises to be lively, inviting, friendly and memorable for both our visitors and locals. It will be an evening of competition with the opportunity to vote for your favourite band, dance troupe, Gombey troupe, choir, songwriter, Majorette, etc. This promises to be a wonderful family evening with the participants eagerly vying for top spot and the ultimate prize. It is designed to fit in with the ferry schedule timing for a return journey to Hamilton.”
The proposed start date for Destination Dockyard is May 6 from 7pm to 10pm and it will run until September 2.
There will be local bar operators, food vendors and other vendors with Bermudian items for sale over the evening, which will be staged on the North Lawn andaround the Clocktower Mall.
An announcement was made last month that the event would be cancelled this year but plans will now go ahead.
This will compliment other regular events in Dockyard this summer including a regular John Lennon tribute concert every Thursday as revealed yesterday by the Bermuda Sun. The concerts will be held in the Victualing Yard from 6:45pm to 9:45pm commencing May 16.
The West End Development Corporation will also hold its Historical Re-enactments on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9:30pm. These will be held from May 5 near the moongate in Dockyard.
A spokesman added: “With actors in period costume giving a short performance to depict life in the Royal Naval Dockyard around 1809, explaining the historical aspects including breakwaters, fortifications, storehouses, workshops and barracks, designed to be an informative and fun event and with the added impact of a cannon being fired during the show, this will be an event not to be missed.
"Visitors will have the opportunity to have a photo taken with one of the actors each day and then to go on and explore the Royal Naval Dockyard and identify the areas they have just learnt about. Shops and restaurants as well as all activities will be open for business. This promises to be a fun glimpse into the history of the Dockyard.”
