The spirit of John Lennon is to rise yet again in Bermuda as Dockyard becomes the stage for a regular live tribute to the music icon.

Producer Felix Tod and promoter Tony Brannon have pulled together a band of local musicians who will perform some 30 Lennon covers every Thursday night in the Victualing Yard.

Tod said the music will be the same as at the successful John Lennon Tribute concert organized by Freisenbruch & Brannon Media  at the Botanical Gardens in September only this event will be completely free.

Tod told the Bermuda Sun: “It's a more intimate show (than the Lennon Tribute concert), but the same music. A Bermudian band and singers will perform 30 songs from Lennon’s amazing career including some of the songs written in Bermuda. Lennon Dockyard brings together two British Institutions… come for a ‘fab’ time and enjoy the music of a legend whilst you sit among the old walls of the Dockyard enjoying a fun evening.”

Drinks and food will be provided by Dockyard’s restaurants. We will report more details about the event soon.

Bermuda was the island that inspired John Lennon to begin writing songs again after a hiatus. He named his last album of original songs Double Fantasy, after learning of the freesia of the same name during a visit to the Botanical Gardens.

Tod told the Bermuda Sun that he aimed to inject some life into Bermuda’s nightlife this summer – and offer an alternative to the generic Top 40 music found in many venues. He is due to launch the Friday night Big Chill event on May 17. The Ibiza-inspired party will be launched at Elbow Beach’s Lido and, as its name suggests, will be a laid back style incorporating a number of different music genres from Latin to dub.

Big Chill will also be hosting a Sunday afternoon social at Cambridge Beaches where boats can moor up and enjoy the vibes.
