Bermuda kicked off their double header in the ICC Americas Division 1 T20 tournament today with a five-wicket victory over Cayman Islands at Brian Piccolo Park in Florida.
After winning the toss and putting their opponents in to bat, Janeiro Tucker was among the wickets (three for 19) as Cayman were restricted to 118 for seven off their 20 overs.
Bermuda's run chase hit an early snag after Dion Stovell was caught and bowled with the score on just 10.
But Lionel Cann — with an impressive 44 off 28 balls — and Stephen Outerbridge (26) propelled the score along and with five overs left, Bermuda were five down with 27 runs needed for victory.
Just four runs were scored off the 16th and 17th overs as David Hemp and Rodney Trott stalled before Trott put on the afterburners with a couple of quick boundaries.
His innings of 15 off 15 took his country to a vital victory with four balls to spare ahead of their second round robin match against USA at 4pm Bermuda time.
The top two in the final table go through to the next stage of Twenty World Cup qualifiers in Dubai on October. Before today's USA match, Bermuda were in second spot.
