DiLisios make it delicious

When your name sounds like ‘delicious’ in Italian, you had better bring to the table a mouth-watering dish.

Lucy and Lou DiLisio, co-founders of Casa DiLisio, make 12 types of sauces, all of which are gluten-free and free of trans fat.

They were displaying their sauces at the Butterfield & Vallis Trade Show on Wednesday at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess.

Mr DiLisio said since the company was founded in 1973, their products have always been gluten-free, but it wasn’t until 2012 they started putting up a sign advertising that fact.

He said “We made that sign last year and brought it here for the first time. It was amazing how people came over and tell me about their problems and about them being Celiac. 

“They would walk by, and then be pulled in by the sign. 

“We do shows all over the US and it’s really a big item. Shows that I had done for years and people know us from them, but then their eyes hit the sign and they come right over. 

“I’m not a believer in fads — this is not a fad, this is a sickness. It tells me that there’s something out there, a sickness out there that we never really knew about.

He said with so many products being processed with a lot of ingredients, it has seen a rise in food-related diseases like Celiac.

“So we’re very proud to have gluten-free products. These are all natural as well as being low sodium.”

Mr DiLisio said it can help people who need a product that is healthy “and we’re happy about that”.

She said besides people are Celiac, there are other people who want to be gluten-free. 

“My wife’s friend, who is a caterer, started eating gluten-free and she feels 100 per cent better.” n
