A historical mini play, a new snorkeling business and a Go Kart Race are some of the new attractions taking place at the Royal Navy Dockyard this year.

Representatives from Wedco unveiled plans for 2013 to local businesses and media organizations at a special meet and greet breakfast this morning.

Actors

The re-enactment is being written and directed by Wrecked On The Rock director Barbara Jones and will outline the history of Dockyard dating back from 1800s. The comical vignette will be acted out by about local actors and includes an old lady, a wench and a sailor. The play will culminate in an exciting cannon blast from the Commissioner’s House.

The 10-minute show will be performed on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays near the ferry terminal from May 15 to October 13.

Mini Golf

Representatives from Dockyard’s newest attraction Bermuda Fun Golf also made a short presentation. Designer Hogan Lindgren and owners John Burcher and Jill Kowalchuk described the new facility as “a beautiful addition to Snorkel Park.” While it is currently only open from Friday to Sunday, it will open seven days a week during peak season, they said.

Snorkeling

Vic Ball talked about a new snorkeling business he is launching at Glass Beach and Black Bay which is due to open in April. There will be beach loungers, chairs and umbrellas as well as food and drinks concessions.

Business manager at Wedco Raymond Tannock, hosting the event, mentioned the success of the Christmas Carol singing event at Dolphin Quest and hinted that there would be similar events to follow in2013. He also hinted at road races including a Go Kart Race and highlighted that there would soon be a new chef at the Frog and Onion pub as well as beer tastings and activities for kids.

Jacqui Frith of Island Tour Centre encouraged businesses to sign up to the service online while local entrepreneur Rachael Sawden promoted her business www.BermyDeals.bm. She said it was a cost effective way for businesses to attract new customers by offering one off special deals on services which BermyDeals.bm helps to publicise.
