Nahki Wells suffered a dead leg during Bradford City’s 2-0 win at their League Two Yorkshire rivals York City on Saturday.
The Bermuda striker was forced off 10 minutes into the second half and is now a doubt for the Bantams’ game against Port Vale tomorrow.
It was a welcome win for Wells & Co after defeat to AFC Wimbledon and a draw to Dagenham either side of the heavy Capital One Cup final loss to Swansea at Wembley.
Goals from James Hanson and Garry Thompson mean City are now in 12th place, nine points off the play-off places.
Manager Phil Parkinson told the Bradford Telegraph & Argus: “Games aren’t going to be pretty at this stage of the season. Every team across the board is scrapping for something. We played with discipline and then when the game slowed down a bit and there was room, we played with quality.”
Meanwhile, Reggie Lambe’s MLS season opened with defeat on Saturday.
The Bermuda winger played the full 90 minutes but was unable to stop Toronto FC sliding to a 1-0 defeat at Vancouver Whitecaps.
Toronto included new signings Robert Earnshaw (ex-Cardiff City) and Hogan Ephraim (on loan from QPR) in their team for former Spurs and Blackburn defender Ryan Nelsen’s first game in charge.
The new manager oversaw a solid performance by the Reds – last year’s MLS whipping boys – and despite the loss Earnshaw believes the team will only improve.
He told the Toronto Sun: “I was really pleased with the first game and, another two or three games, I think we’re going to get better.”
