Sport shorts: Trio is the Reel deal
Three Reel Anglers won the 48th International Light Tackle Tournament held at the Bermuda Anglers Club.
The seven, three-person teams used 12lb & 16lb maxima line and, after a number of top threes over the years, David Fingland, who has fished the tournament for 15 years, Scott Deal, in his sixth, both from the Bahamas, and team-mate Aron Long, who unfortunately fell ill and was unable to make it, clinched the title.
They will represent the club at the Offshore World Championships in Costa Rica next year.
Fingland had the largest catch — a 74.6lb Yellowfin Tuna on 12lb test. There was also a 52.7lb Almaco Jack also on 12lb test caught by Adam Hirschberg.
In second were all-female team Chixs with Stixs of Fiona Beck, Cindy Mitchell and Joan Vandergriff, who caught a 42lb Yellowfin Tuna on 16lb test. In third were The Philly ForRum.
The other teams were: Reel Lax (Danny Fox, Hamish Burns, Lester Petracca); 2DW Squared (Brian Lines, Dean Rea, Neil McKinney); Sea Horse Anglers Club (David Ross DeSilva, Gilbert Amaral and David Barber) and Bermuda Anglers Club (Mark Henneberger, David Skinner and Kip Froud).
Organizers would like to thank sponsors: Dept of Tourism, Aspen Insurance Ltd, Crisson, Jewellers, Gosling’s, Maxima Fishing Line, Sticks & Stones, Southern Cross Cable, Network, Rowe Spurling, Pro-Tone, Invisible Trenching & Pelagic, Flybridge Tackle, Marine Locker, The MarketPlace, Asyd Design, Island Glass, Butterfield & Vallis & Corporation of Hamilton.
