Police urge residents to secure their homes
Police have urged residents to remember to secure their properties after an increase in burglaries this summer.
Police believe this may be linked to the hot weather and the subsequent need to have ventilation in homes.
A spokesperson said: “The Bermuda Police Service has noticed a recent increase in residential Burglaries.
“We have come to realize that this could be contributed to the summer season and the need to have ventilation in homes. Thieves are generally opportunists looking for an easy target.
“The Bermuda Police Service would like to inform the public of common mistakes made by victims and encourage them to secure their property. Some of these mistakes include: leaving windows and doors open for ventilation with just the screens closed, no proper lighting around the house after dusk, not cancelling mail delivery when leaving the Island on vacation.
“The Bermuda Police Service police Service urge members of the public to keep their home safe and secure."
