Podiatrists Stuart Mcintosh and Natalie Bennett have made a successful business out of Island Sole, a shoe store that caters to people with foot problems who would like shoes that are functional as well as fancy.
The pair have each been podiatrists for about 14 years and opened their store on Gorham’s Road next to Oleander Cycles in June 2012.
Mr Mcintosh told the Bermuda Sun one year on “Things have taken off really well. Sales have been good. People are quite happy with us providing the footwear that is quite hard to get.
“We recommend footwear for our patients. Being in Bermuda for the past six years, it’s really hard to find suitable footwear on the island. We’d make recommendations and the patients wouldn’t be able to get their hands on suitable footwear.
“So we came up with the idea to provide them with what they need. That’s where the idea was birthed.”
Needs
Mr Mcintosh added Island Sole has a full range of sizes and widths to meet its clientele’s needs.
“This is still stylish footwear. It’s not orthopaedic footwear — it’s trendy footwear with comfort and support where they need it. We bring in different styles that will accommodate people’s different types of problem feet.
“They may have had surgery in the past and may not be able to fit into a regular shoe any more.”
