Concepts In Motion Dance Company will perform a show this weekend for the first time in three years.

The company’s seventh performance will be held on Friday and Saturday night at Ruth Seaton James, featuring local and international choreographers.

Owner Lizz Pimentel said: “This show promises to be our best ever, with a cast of dancers that features not only our junior and senior company dancers, but also many of our professional dancers returning to Bermuda specifically for this performance.

“The show features pieces from international choreographers Slam, Ashley Lindsey, BJ Sullivan and more, as well as local favourites like Jennifer Soares, Lauren Rowntree, Candice Musselan.

“This year we’re thrilled to feature a piece choreographed by alumni Courtney Lopes, back from performing in New York.

“Whether you are a fan of Ballet, Modern, Jazz, or Lyrical, you’re sure to be blown away by the talent on display.”

Success

Pimentel said her dancers are highly committed to making the show a success.

“The show is put together in three weeks so high demand on the dancers and rehearsals.

“Dancers spend hours on end at the studio working and rehearsing, even on the holiday weekend.

“Some dancers are balancing school, exams and rehearsals.

“Really, it is a labour of love for everyone and is a huge family environment.

“We work hard and play hard and have so much fun in the studio.”

Speaking on what the community can expect, Pimentel said: “Concepts looks to be a revolution in movement.

“We look for choreographers who exist on the bleeding edge of their art, people who can take our dancers further and challenge them as artists and as human beings.

“Audiences can expect to see something different in every piece.

“The choreographers come from such diverse backgrounds and represent such diverse styles but the amalgamation of them all onto one stage is thrilling to see.

“The show is perfect for all ages, and dance tastes and a high level of professionalism and technique.

“We hope that Bermuda comes out to support these talented dancers who have given so much for this performance.

“Rehearsals have run from 9am to 9pm over the weekends and that level of dedication should be recognized and supported.”

She continued: “Concepts has given our local dancers the ability to experience and train with some of the most influential teachers and choreographers both locally and overseas.

“It is because of these experiences that our dancers are able to fit in and excel overseas at otherprestigious dance programs.

“Being a Concepts company member gives dancers the skills necessary to work on a pre-professional level and open them to opportunities to further their dance careers overseas.

“We are proud that our students have gone on to pursue dance related careers and studies overseas.”

Pimentel said over the years, Concepts has held several local professional level performances and workshops with acclaimed choreographers from the San Jose Ballet, North Carolina School of the Arts, the Broadway musical Aida, and the Urban Bush Women, to name a few.

Concepts has also performed for local charities and offers $75,000 worth of annual scholarships to worthy dancers.
