The Bermudian, representing his high school St. Johnsbury Academy at the weekend, did the triple —the 400m in a photo finish, the 800m and overcame South Burlington’s top-seeded Malcolm Plunkett in the 1,500m.
He also successfully chased down Mount Anthony’s Ben Seward on the final leg to ensure the Hilltoppers won the 4x400m.
Amazingly, Minors’ incredible individual performance could not guarantee his school victory as they went down 115-13 to the Essex Hornets.
The relay performance from Minors was particular astounding after team-mate Sully Kiley, the second runner, stumbled to the track. The third leg saw SJA pull level only to fall back before the baton was handed to Minors.
The islander then showed superb powers of endurance to turn on the afterburners and, with the crowd open-mouthed, edged out the leader to earn 10 points for SJA and give them a chance of winning the state title.
Sadly for them, the Hornets’ fifth place finish was enough to clinch the championship.
