Mikey Wollmann claimed the first ever Bermuda O’pen BIC National Championship at the weekend.
Sixteen races were completed in the Under-16 series with 15 sailors battling it out on the water.
Wollmann won with a nett score of 14 from Peter Dill (27) and Aaron Kuhn (33). Ceci Wollmann was the highest place girl competitor with a nett total of 29. The Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club’s Rear Commodore of Sailing Neil Redburn presented the prizes.
“The RHADC has now had the O’pen BIC for just over a year and it is now our most popular boat for junior sailors,” he said.
“We actually had more entrants than boats and had to turn sailors away. Our Open BIC fleet is also attracting USA sailors to come to Bermuda before the 2013 World Championship to train.”
The club will host the first ever Bermuda O’pen on June 22-23, where they will be hosting a team from Miami. This years O’pen BIC World Championship will be held on Lake Garda following the Optimist World Championship.
The 2013 World Championship expects a 300-boat strong fleet and the RHADC will be sending a team of eight sailors — Brandon Adams, Blair Blakeney, Peter Dill, Sammy Dill, Aglae Perrin, Charis Todd, Ceci Wollmann and Mikey Wollmann — to the event.
The event was sponsored by Tidal Asset Management Ltd. and Revelation Capital Management Ltd.
