The Bermuda ball hockey team continued it’s undefeated run at the 2013 Ball Hockey Championships by defeating the Cayman Islands 4-2 on Wednesday afternoon.
That makes four wins in a row for the Bermuda squad that has looked impressive thus far, leading the B-Pool with it’s undefeated 4-0 record, and outscoring opponents with a total score of 20-5 over the four game stretch.
Rivalry
Dave Gazzard, Bermuda’s team manager, said in a press release: “Bermuda vs Cayman. May not sound like the two powerhouses for ball hockey but this is a rivalry that goes back a few years now. Bermuda was first to the arena and were welcomed by the head tournament organizers who said they had this matchup marked on their calendar and loved the rivalry.
“After pregame instructions both teams met at center ice and you could feel the excitement in the building.”
Pete Holowchuk opened up the scoring for Cayman in the first period by slapping in a power-play goal from the point. David Gazzard of Bermuda came back in the second to tie the game up with a power-play goal of his own, but the tie was broken again after Claude Plamondon scored for Cayman on yet another power-play.
Cayman led by a score of 2-1 until late in the second period, when Chris Coleman scored for Bermuda with just over a minute to go to tie the game again and recapture momentum. Bermuda went on to dominate the third period, holding Cayman scoreless while scoring two goals of their own, one by Chad Critchly and the other by Jean-Michael Tremblay, who currently leads all scorers with four goals.
Bermuda now holds a comfortable lead in the B-Pool, with a total of 8 points. Cayman fall to a record of 2-1 after the loss, giving them a total of 4 points and putting them in second.
Bermuda’s next game will come against fourth place Great Britain on Thursday at 4 pm.
