Aaron Evans opened in his running season in grand style with a victory in the 800 metres at the Music City Distance Carnival in Nashville, Tennessee on Sunday.
Evans had been nursing an injury earlier in the year but showed no ill effects as he stormed to the win.
The Bermuda 800 metre record holder started in lane eight and was near the back of the pack for most of the race, content to bide his time.
Going into the next to last corner Evans was in sixth place but put on a power surge on the outside to move up to fourth heading into the home stretch.
Evans put on an impressive surge to win in a time of 1:48.68. James Gilreath was second in 1:49.00 with Brandon Hazouri of Samford third in 1:49.27.
Bermuda National Athletics Association president Donna Watson said in a media release: “This is a good start to his season as he tries to reach the standard for the IAAF World Championships.”
