Cup Match Fever, a “recession proof” after party for the holiday is back this year with a new format.

The theme this year for the party is old school vs new school.

It will be held at Gombey’s Clearwater from 8pm on Friday.

Organizer Rowan Ramotar said: “This is our sixth year and we are doing something different and exciting that our patrons will love.

“This year we will have the battle of the musical eras Old School versus New School.

“Representing team Old School we have Magnum Force, Lenky Global, Selecta Fray, and Jagga Movements from Boston.

“These guys be will playing the hits from the 80s, 90s, and up to 2005.”

He continued: “Representing Team New School we have YGS, iMega, Chinese Assassin from Miami, and Champion Squad from Miami.

“They will be playing the hits from 2005 to the present. The all star battle will be hosted by Carnival Cruise Line’s Top DJ, DJ Castro.”

Speaking on the DJs, Ramotar said: “Chinese Assassin are no stranger to Bermuda.

“They have played all over the world and bring a certain energy to any party at which they play.

“Champion Squad has been a fixture on Fever for the last two years.

“They have been dubbed the remix masters by their fans.

“Jagga Movements is the top sound in Boston. This is their first time playing at Fever and they are looking to giving the Team New School a lesson in Old School music.”

Ramotar said the party will start at 8pm with the battle beginning at 9pm.

“In keeping with the Cup Match tradition, there will be a coin toss to see who goes first.

“The winner will be crowned at 2am by the patrons. The winner will play a victory hour from 2am to 3am.

“All genres of music will be played during the battle.”

Ramotar said the party averages 1,200 to 1,500 patrons each year. This year will be no different.

“We encourage everyone to bring their whistles, flags, horns and any other noisemaker they can find to cheer on their team”, he added.

Speaking on the recession aspect, Ramotar said: “Due to the current economic downturn, we have kept our ticket price at their lowest, $30.

“We recognize people would like to go out and have a good time on a strict budget.

“We are confident that this party fits that budget perfectly.

“Gombeys will be transformed into a huge outdoor club on the beach.

“Reality rentals will deck out the venue with laser lights and smoked dance floor.

“We urge everyone to come dressed in comfortable shoes because this party in known for making peoples’ feet hurt from dancing long hours.”

Tickets are available at Kit n Caboodle, Jazzy Boutique, Gombeys, The Cave in St Georges, and all event DJs or call 705-2109 for ticket delivery.

There are special birthday and group rates available.
