Norwegian

Fans of the Norwegian Breakaway will be happy to know the cruise line has ordered an additional Breakaway Plus class ship. This means it will have four ships in the Breakaway line, with the Getaway which is due to start sailing in mid-January 2014 out of Miami.

The Breakaway Plus Class is slightly larger than the Breakaway.

The first is due to enter service in October 2015 and will carry 4,200 passengers — 200 more than the Breakaway.

Additionally, it will be 163,000 gross tons compared to the Breakaway’s 146,000 tons.

Badges

“Badges? We don’t need no stinking badges.”

While that line was delivered in the comedy classic Blazing Saddles (and other films), it could really be applied to the latest social media attempt by JetBlue.

This week members of the airline’s frequent flyer programme TrueBlue received an e-mail to notify us that we can participate promoting JetBlue.

How is that?

By earning badges for JetBlue-related activities.

JetBlue calls it “exciting”. I call it a time waster.

Don’t get me wrong, I love winning and seeing myself on top of the leaderboard, but this just misses the runway.

I’m really not that excited to earn a badge by renting a car from Hertz or staying at a Hilton.

It might have been cool to earn a badge with all the cities I’ve travelled to flying with JetBlue, but when you sign up for this game, you start with a clean sheet.

What’s the fun with that?

I’m sure people will play and think it’s great, but it’s not for me.
