Tristan Joynes took gold in the 110m hurdles and Bruce DeGrilla finished with bronze in the long jump for Bermuda on Wednesday.

Joynes finished with a time of 14.69 seconds, just beating out silver medalist Glenn Etherington of the Cayman Islands, who finished with a time 14.76 seconds. While happy to take gold for Bermuda, he felt he could have done even better. He told the Bermuda Sun:  “I feel like I could have done way, way better. Technically I hit half of the hurdles in my race, which you don’t want to do because it slows you down, but I’ll take the win.

“I was glad to come out there and get the win for Bermuda and add another medal to the board. It feels good because I haven’t ran here since 2010, so it was good to put on a show and come through with a gold for Bermuda.”

DeGrilla impressed both the audience and himself with his personal best jump of 7.33m, good for bronze. He told the Sun: “I didn’t expect to medal coming in but I definitely expected to do my best and come fourth or fifth.

“I got a PB and it felt good. It felt good to get bronze for Bermuda in front of that crowd.”

Bermudian long distance man Stephen Allen finished fourth with a strong run in the Men’s 5000m.
