Tuesday morning Island Games action:
Badminton:
Bermudian Danial Hughes was knocked out of the Men’s Badminton Round of 16 by Paul le Tocq of Guernsey, losing both sets 12-21 and 15-21.
Cycling:
Bermudian cyclist Shannon Lawrence took bronze in the Men’s Individual Cycling Time Trial, beating out fourth place finisher Tobyn Horton of Guernsey by less than a second. Lawrence’s time was 1:00:42.536. Dominique Mayho came in 21st, Johan Vivier came in 26th, Daren Glasford came in 29th, and Geri Mewett came in 30th for Bermuda.
Golf:
Bermudian golfer Ebonie Burgess remains in the medal hunt, currently placing third of thirty in the Ladies Individual Golf event with a score of 162 through two rounds of golf. She is ten points behind current leader Lina Billing of Gotland, with two rounds still to be played on Wednesday and Thursday. Elizabeth Parsons and Katrin Burnie are currently in 16th and 17th, respectively, and Ann Symonds is in 23rd.
Sailing:
Bermudian Malcolm Smith currently leads the field of 16 in the Laser Standard Rig Racing with a score of 12 with four races down and six more to go. Smith had a fourth and a second today. Rockal Evams is also in the medals hunt and stands sixth on 21 points.
Shooting:
The Bermudian Automatic Ball Trap Men’s Team of Terence Madeiros and J. Andrew Pereira finished eighth in the Team Final.
Squash:
Denise Kyme celebrated her birthday on Tuesday, but the Bermudian Women’s Doubles squash team of Kyme and Liz Martin was knocked out of the semi-finals by a Cayman Islands team of Jaclyn Geils and Marlene West who won both sets 15-5 and 15-4.
Swimming:
Bermudian Swimmer Lisa Blackburn came fourth in the preliminary Women’s 200m Breaststroke, putting her in the finals on Tuesday evening. Shannon Hassell and Stephanie Myles will both be swimming in the Women’s 800m Freestyle Tuesday evening. Nicholas Patterson and Jesse Washington failed to qualify for the Men’s 100m Butterfly Finals. Ashley Yearwood and Rebecca Sharpe came first and third, respectively, in the Women’s 100m Backstroke Qualifiers and will swim in the finals Tuesday evening. Benedict Parfit qualified for the Men’s 50m Breaststroke Finals Tuesday evening. Rebecca Heyliger and Ashley Yearwood came second and third, respectively, in the Women’s 50m Butterfly Qualifiers and will swim for the finals Tuesday evening. Jesse Washington and Andrew Beveridge failed to qualify for the Men’s 200m Freestyle Finals. Lisa Blackburn qualified for the Women’s 200m Individual Medley Final on Tuesday evening. Bermuda’s Team of Andrew Beveridge, Benedict Parfit, Nicholas Patterson, and Jesse Washington qualified for the Men’s 4x50m Freestyle Final on Tuesday evening.
Tennis:
Bermudian Alex Cooper lost to Scott Clayton of Jersey in straight sets in the Men’s Tennis Singles round of 16. Tyler Smith beat Josefine Nordlund of Aland in straight sets to advance past the Women’s Singles round of 16.
Beach Volleyball:
The Bermuda 1 Women’s Beach Volleyball Team of Allison Lacoursiere and Claudia Stich beat the Bermuda 2 team of Stacey Dorush and Heather Wearmouth 21-18 and 21-17 in the Beach Volleyball Quarter-Finals. The Bermudian 1 Men’s team lost to Menorca 2-1.
Bermuda’s seven gold, six silver, and nine bronze give them 22 medals overall, putting them in third place behind the Isle of Man and Guernsey.
