Bermuda bagged gold and silver this morning in a thrilling sprint finish to the women's road race.
Four riders crossed the finish line in the same time of 2 hours, 18 minutes and nineteen seconds.
But it was the two Bermudian riders, Nicole Mitchell and Karen Bordage, that took the spoils. Bermuda also won the team gold.
Mitchell pipped her compatriot Bordage at the post to claim the gold, while Ann Bowditch from Guernsey took the bronze.
Mitchell told the Bermuda Sun: "It was pretty close there.
"I knew it was going to come down to sprint finish because the group slowed down towards the end.
"I'm just thrilled that I managed to get across the line first.
"I have been peaking towards this all year and it means everything to me.
"And to do it in front of a home crowd is just absolutely fantastic."
While Bordage said that the silver was "like a dream come true".
She told the Sun: "Six months ago I was on crutches after hip surgery so I was not even sure I would be able to take part in this.
"It's an amazing feeling. I can't describe how much this means to me.
"To hear people shouting my name all the way around really helped, especially when it was getting tough out there.
"Nicole and I helped each other out all the way around and it's great for Bermuda to pick up a gold and a silver on the first day."
