Lewis does Bermuda proud at CAC Championships (Update)

The BNAA has three teams leaving Bermuda on Tuesday. As well the CAC Snr Championships (Mexico) and World Youth Championships (Ukraine), they also have a team leaving for the University Games, which are being held in Kazan, Russia.

These games consist of multiple sports and the athletics begins on July 7 with Bermuda’s last athlete competing on July 12.

Watson said: “We are excited with this team as this is some of our outstanding University students who have been competing well during this season. We are looking for some great performances from them.  We were only allowed two females and two males — therefore we had to send some to the University games and the others are competing at the CAC Snr Championships.

The team consists of: Taylor Ashley Bean (800m & 1500m); Alison Outerbridge (Triple Jump), Shaquille Dill (400m & 800m) and Henry Stevens-Carty (400m & 800m).

Lewis came second overall in the 11/12 Girls’ Age Group category, with her performance featuring wins in the high jump and long jump as well as a third-place finish in the 60m.

Bermuda National Athletics Association president Donna Watson said in a press release: “This was a great competition for Zekiah, which we felt it was going to be as she does well in multiple events during our local competitions. We are looking at Zekiah becoming one of our top heptathletes in the future.”

Mikaela Outerbridge placed 30th overall but did manage a fine third in the 800m. There were 37 athletes in this age group.

In the 11/12 Boys, Sean Tatem came 26th and Robert Thomas 28th out of a field of 39, while in the 13/14 Girls Symir Lowe-Darrell finished 16th and Syriah Lottimore 22nd out of 39.

Finally, in the 13/14 Boys, Elisha Darrell placed 20th overall but had the highlights of claiming a fourth in the long jump and a fifth in the high jump. Sean Tucker came 32^nd.

Watson added: “Our Bermuda young athletes performed well and did Bermuda proud.”
