Pearman
Reginald Pearman, president of the BCB said: "On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank all the volunteer coaches for their hard work and dedication throughout the season the League sponsors, Hiscox, Bermuda Security Group and BF&M, for their continued support of our programmes.
"The 2009 Youth Leagues have been a great success this year with 10 teams taking part in the 8&U League, 20 teams in the Hiscox 11&U League, 14 teams in the BSG 14&U and 8 teams in the BF&M 17&U League. All our leagues continue to grow and the numbers of participants, over 750 children, clearly proves this.
"We are also pleased that we have three all-girl teams taking part in the leagues and many new schools and clubs entering teams. The BCB vision is to "Improve Lives through Cricket" and our comprehensive youth programmes provide safe and constructive fun activities for our children. I would also like to take this time to encourage the local community to come and watch our rising young stars."
In addition to the All Star games taking place this Saturday, the BCB will be holding a prize presentation for the first, second and third placed teams in each league directly following each game, so we hope to see as many league participants attending as possible.
Sports minister Glenn Blakeney said: "I am extremely pleased to note that the number of talented young cricketers continue to grow. The Bermuda Cricket Board has done an excellent job in providing a safe and nurturing environment for our young players to participate and enjoy sport. I look forward to watching the games on Saturday."
Charles Dupplin, chief executive officer, Hiscox Insurance Company (Bermuda) Limited said: "It has been heartwarming to see the enjoyment and enthusiasm this year in what is hopefully the nursery for the future of Bermuda cricket internationally. Hiscox is really delighted to have been a part."
Wayne Edwards, vice president of Security Services of the Bermuda Security Group said: "It is a pleasure for Bermuda Security Group to be involved in sponsoring the U14 League. We have contributed for five years now and already several of these players have graduated to representing the country internationally in U19 competition. We look forward to the day when someone will go all the way and may be representing the country in the World Cup."
"BF&M is pleased to continue its support of cricket in Bermuda by sponsoring the Bermuda Cricket Board's Under 17 League," said BF&M president and CEO John Wight. "This league gives our young people a chance to play a game they love while developing important life skills like discipline, camaraderie and leadership."[[In-content Ad]]
