With Sluggo gone, Trott's now the man
But the youngster is relishing the chance to step up and take over from Dwayne 'Sluggo' Leverock as Bermuda's senior spinner.
The Bailey's Bay tweaker may only be 21, but he is already one of the most experienced players in the squad.
And he believes the task of filling the gaping hole Sluggo's retirement has left in Bermuda's bowling attack can inspire him to new heights.
"I think it will make me bowl better, knowing that I have that little bit more responsibility" said Trott.
"There's going to be a lot more work for the other bowlers but I think we can get the job done."
Leverock was famous for his marathon spells in the four-day game, sometimes reeling up to 40 overs off in a row.
Split workload
Trott doesn't expect to inherit his entire workload. He believes the likes of Tamauri Tucker, Malachi Jones and Kevon Fubler give Bermuda plenty of options with the ball.
But he is enjoying the opportunity to wield a greater influence in the squad after the retirement of Sluggo, Lionel Cann and Janeiro Tucker.
"It was a good experience playing with those guys. We have to take the knowledge that they gave us over the years and pass it on to the younger guys.
"Right now I'm one of the middle age guys in the team so I have that responsibility. I captained a lot of the younger guys at the Under-19s so I know them and I think they do have respect got me."
Trott accepts that there is a long road back to the top for Bermuda and admits it could take a few years to get there.
"There is still a lot of work to be done but it is good that we have a lot of young players and everybody seems to be coming together. We will have to see what happens when the game starts on Monday."[[In-content Ad]]
