Whiz kids restore computers to donate

WEDNESDAY, MAY 30: Warwick Academy students have been using their IT skills to help restore old computers for local charities and clubs.

Dozens of old machines have already been donated to the school by HSBC Bermuda and pupils have been busy installing new internal components and loading operating systems so they can be used again.

The project has been spearheaded by Warwick ICT teacher Mark Hamilton.

He said: “The focus of the project is to put into play the skills they are learning in the classroom by getting under the hood of the computers while at the same time provide a working PC for someone in need.

“The idea is that the working computers will be donated to any clubs, or organizations that might need one.”

The school is now looking to hear from charities and organizations that cannot afford a PC and would benefit from a working computer.

Plans are also in place to sell any remaining computers so funds can be put towards the Emergency Student Assistance Fund.

The money is used to financially support the families of Warwick Academy students in difficult times.

Mr Hamilton added: “We are aware of how hard times are for everyone right now so we are looking to find new initiatives to support wherever we can.”
