TUESDAY, AUGUST 14: A special premiere of Whitney Houston’s last movie will be held this weekend. Sparkle was filmed just months before the star died in February.
It will premiere around the world on Friday night. Bermuda Sun sister website bermuda.com will host a special screening of Sparkle that evening at Liberty Theatre.
The film is Houston’s final acting performance before her death and features her last song recordings.
Glenn Jones, marketing and business development manager for MediaHouse Limited (the parent company of bermuda.com and the Bermuda Sun) said: “Although Liberty is a larger theatre, we’re expecting the Sparkle premiere to be sold out just like Jumping the Broom.
“We try to pick films that are highly anticipated and turn it into a memorable movie-going experience.
“It’s a way for us to remind folks that we sell movie tickets every day of the year, plus we can let them know about our coolest new products like the bermuda.com App.”
Ticketholder Sylvia Burgess is quite excited about the premiere. She plans to attend the event with seven ladies from her book club. They have purchased their tickets online and will dress up for the premiere.
Ms Burgess said: “We’re all eager because it’s Whitney’s last professional work.
“She’s an icon.
“I saw the first Sparkle and it’s one of my favorite all-time movies so I’m anxious to see how this one pans out and compares to the first one.”
The movie is set in the Motown era of 1960 and is a remake of a film by the same name. Derek Luke, Mike Epps and Ceelo Green are among the stars in the supporting cast.
American Idol star Jordin Sparks plays the lead role, but undoubtedly all eyes will be on Whitney Houston because many expected Sparkle to mark the beginning of her long-awaited comeback.
This is the second time bermuda.com will host a premiere movie screening. Last year it screened Jumping the Broom at Neptune Theatre on the same night it opened around the world.
The demand was so high a second screening was hastily added.
Tickets for the 7pm premiere screening of Sparkle on Friday are selling online at www.bermuda.com/movies and at the Liberty Theatre box office for $13.
Ticket holders will have the opportunity to win prizes and promotional giveaways at the start of the film.
For a chance to win tickets to the premiere screening of Sparkle tune into the Thaao Dill Morning Show on HOTT 107.5 on Thursday.
Bermuda.com and Bermuda Sun are affiliated companies under the MediaHouse Limited umbrella.[[In-content Ad]]
