When leaders don't know what to do
It must be first of all noted, that at some point and time leaders must admit when things are out of their remit or control.
Being a leader does not mean that you have all the answers. Being a leader means that you know when you do not have the answer, and your next move is extremely important.
2 Kings 5:5 And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him 10 talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of raiment.
6 And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, Now when this letter is come unto thee, behold, I have therewith sent Naaman my servant to thee, that thou mayest recover him of his leprosy.
7 And it came to pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he rent his clothes, and said, Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man doth send unto me to recover a man of his leprosy? wherefore consider, I pray you, and see how he seeketh a quarrel against me.
8 And it was so, when Elisha the man of God had heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes? Let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.
You have the King of Syria (leader), the King of Israel (leader), the captain of the army, Naaman, (leader) and you have Elisha The Prophet (leader). It must be noted that the one clear difference is that Elisha was subject to the leadership of his God, while the other leaders had people who were subject to them.
In the story, a leader had leprosy. Naaman had a condition that his position of leadership could not cure. In addition, Naaman's leader could not cure his condition and neither could the leader of Israel.
What must be noted is that Elisha must have built up such a reputation of performing miracles by the power of God that the words reached the king by way of a servant (slave girl). Isn't that just like God?
He always places the lowly servant in the right place to bring deliverance to the mighty ones.
That little maid gossiped good news. She did not talk about Naaman, but rather she spoke about how Naaman's condition could be cured.
What could those leaders do in that sorrowful situation? There was the King of Syria. He could write a letter releasing Naaman to travel to get his healing.
The King of Israel had to admit that the situation was beyond his ability and that he was not going to enter into a fracas because of it.
Yet when Elisha saw that the leader of his country was under duress, he stepped in, and by God's guidance took over the situation. Please note that Elisha did not move until the powers that be, were willing to admit that they could do nothing.
When the present leadership of the country admits that they are in need of divine help, then God will leave them to their own demise.
Once no king could change the situation, it meant that the Lord God of Israel would get the credit when the situation did change.
We live in a world where many try and discredit God. The strange thing is that those "many" do not understand that by discrediting the awesomeness of God and the reality of God, they actually are a partaker in the plan of their own demise.
If it were not for the presence of God's people in Bermuda, we would be in a much worse condition. Therefore, we acknowledge the many "Elishas" who are praying and staying before the face of God in spite of what is currently taking place in our land. God is greater than the chaos and confusion. God will bring order out of disorder.
How will that happen? It will happen when leaders (Naamans) decide to get to the door of the House of the Prophet of God. You see, until you are willing to stand at the door and wait, you will not obtain that which you stand in need of.
Naaman was at the door, but he had the wrong attitude. He thought that he ought to have either been invited in or that the Prophet Elisha should have come out to meet him. Naaman had to have his pride broken so that the infirmity over and within his body could also be broken.
Until pride falls, the leader will continue to fall. Only in broken humility will there be bountiful healing. Will you be healed today?
Blessings abound.
