Art shows

Women's Work

July 9 —The latest show at Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard tells you that a woman's work is never done. The show runs until Aug 11. The gallery is open 10am-5pm daily and admission is free.

Different Strokes Two

Until August 19 — A rotating art show by Otto Trott, Marlene Jantzen, Joyce Hayden, Kevin Morris, Ruth Vallis and Brenda Gitschner will take place at the Lighthouse Tearoom from 9am-3pm. Admission is free. For more visit www.bermudashowcase.com

Summer Members Show

Until July 12 — Open at the Bermuda Society of Arts is the Really Big or Really Small in the Onions Gallery. In the Edinburgh Gallery is a show by Frances Furbert. The shows run until July 12. Third Floor, City Hall. 292-3824

Until September 1 — 83 works by 50 local artists were chosen by the distinguished international jurors for the 2006 Biennial. The jurors are Dr. Annette Blaugrund, Director, National Academy Museum and School of Fine Art, New York; and Professor Moe Brooker, former professor at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Presently he is Department Head of Basic Studies at Moore College of Art in Philadelphia where he also teaches painting.

SPCA Fundraising Dog Wash

July 8 — Bring your best friend down for a "spa" treatment at the SPCA. Fundraising Dog Wash in St Paul's Church Field, Paget. The dog wash takes place from 10am-3pm and prices are dependant on size of dog. If your dog requires special shampoo please bring with you. All proceeds to benefit the SPCA. An Evening Under the Sea

July 8 — The Bermuda Red Cross annual dinner and dance will take place on the grounds of Saltus Grammar School. There will be music and dancing with Prestege as well as a silent auction and raffles. Cocktails begin at 7pm with dinner at 8pm, and dress is casual and fun. Tickets cost $150 and include drinks. Call 236-8253 to book tickets.

Sunshine League Moonwalk

July 8 — Join the Sunshine League for its seventh annual evening walk-a-thon, starting from 8pm at the Warwick Park on South Shore Road. The walk will be approximately 5 1/2-miles along the picturesque South Shore to Church Bay and back. Collect pledge forms from the Sportseller in the Washington Mall or register the night of the walk at 7pm. Registration fee is $15 for adults, Children $5 (12 and under). The first 300 registrants will receive a free t-shirt. Glow-in-the-Dark Jewelry will be given out prior to the walk and there will be an iPod prize for the student and adult with the most pledges. Also don't miss a delicious after walk picnic!

Sea Sunday

July 9 — Under the distinguished patronage of Sir John Vereker, the Chairman and Board of Management of the Bermuda Sailors' Home invite you to attend the annual observance of Sea Sunday at 12:30pm at the Home on Richmond Road, Pembroke. All are welcome and refreshments will be served after the service.

Morgan Heritage

July 8 — Spanish Town Entertainment presents Morgan Heritage under the Mega Tent at Clearwater. Also featuring Fires of Africa, Sweet Sess, Ras Giorgis and Twanee Butterfield, all backed by the Homegrown Band. Tockets are $40 in advance from Logic on Burnaby, Dub City, Eru-Atile and www.bermudatickets.com, and $50 at the gate. Gates open at 8pm with showtime at 10pm with an early warm by Souljah1.

Mediterraneo Bistro

July 8&9 — There will be live music at Mediterraneo Bistro, on the corner of Church & Parliament Streets, with downbeat at 10pm and music until 1am.

Appearing will be Wayne Davis on piano, Rob Lansing on guitar, Stan Gilbert on bass, Howard Rego on drums and surprise guest artists, playing jazz, funk and R & B music on Friday night and straight ahead jazz, Latin, popular and contemporary jazz and a fusion of all the above on Saturday night, with food served until 1am. Pastels

July 7 — Erotik Desires Productions presents "Pastels" ladies night out featuring King Jyrus, Twin Starr, China, And Vybez Alliance at the Devonshire Rec. Admission Is $15 before midnight, $20 after.

Passionz

July 7 — Jah Pickney Promotions presents Passionz featuring Spearchucka, Blackstar and Radigan at Slipaways. Admission is $15 and the first ten ladies get in free.

Teen Dance

July 8 — Dynasty and Big Brothers Promotions presents Teen Dance for middle to high school at the P.C.C. skating ring. There will be music by Dynasty and Nu-Tones. Admission is $15 and the event takes place from 8pm to 12am. There will be free food and refreshments and transportation will be provided to the bus terminal to catch the last bus.

Tuff Dogs World Cup Weekend

July 8&9 — The World Cup wrap party begins at Docksiders at 9pm on July 8 featuring DJ All-Star. Tickets are $20. Wear your team's colours (jerseys are allowed) and there will a prize for the best male and female fan outfits. On July 9 will be the World Cup Finals Party with kick off at 3pm. There will be food and drink specials and free admission at the front bar. The VIP party takes place at the back bar. Tickets are available from Sound Stage, Docksiders and Tuff Dogs.

Seduction

July 8 — Wild Apache Productions presents a night called Seduction. The party takes place at Slipaways on the terrace from 10pm until. There will be music by Magnum Force, Zedhi, and King Star. Admission is $20, ladies are free before midnight.

Sports

Walking Club of Bda

July 9 — The Walking Club will walk from Admiralty House, Pembroke. Participants should meet at the parking lot at 7am. The walks are free and all are welcome. There are cut-off points for those who do not want to walk the full distance. For more info call 737-0437, e-mail [email protected]
