BDA Society of Arts

Jan. 20 — Open at the Bermuda Society of Arts is the Winter 2005 Members Show. In the Edinburgh Gallery is a show by Shirley James. Third Floor, City Hall. 292-3824.

Salvage

Until Feb. 3 — Open at the Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard is Salvage, a show defined as (1) to save used, damaged or rejected goods for recycling or further use, and (2) to save something of worth or merit from a situation or event that is otherwise a failure. The BACD is open Monday to Sunday 10am-5pm. 234-2809.

Interim

Jan. 13 – Opening at the Interim Gallery is The Interim 2005 in Retro, featuring works by Meredith Andrews, Michelle Lindo. Geraldine Kempe, Daniel Benson, Alicia Tyson, Sue Rebello and many more. The Interim is open from Wednesday to Saturday from 10am-3pm. The gallery is located on the corner of King St & Reid St in Hamilton. Call 292-3028 for more information.

Steve Solomon’s “My Mother’s Italian…”

Jan. 13-15 —Steve Solomon invites the audience to meet ‘The Family’, whose sole purpose in life is to drive him into therapy.

The Acting Company Presents Macbeth

Jan. 19-21 — After an eight-year absence, this highly respected U.S. touring repertory group returns to Bermuda to perform William Shakespeare’s Macbeth.

The King’s Consort, The Italian

Connection

Jan. 25 & 26 — Performed by the acclaimed musicians of The King’s Consort, this is an evening of highly original Italian and English chamber music.

Soweto Gospel Choir

Jan. 27-29 — The thirty voices of this African choir deliver a non-stop pageant of potent African Gospel music.

Garth Fagan Dance

Feb. 1&2 — The 35-year-old Garth Fagan Dance Company has a singular dance style that draws on many sources: the speed and precision of ballet, the rule-breaking experimentation of the post-moderns, and the torso-centred, energetic influence of Afro-Caribbean dance.

Gareth Armstrong’s Shylock

Feb. 3&4 — Former Royal Shakespeare Company actor Gareth Armstrong has captivated audiences worldwide with this wonderfully engaging one-man performance centred on Shakespeare’s famous Jew.

The Ahn Trio

Feb. 7&8 — These sisters – violinist Angella and her twin sisters pianist Lucia and cellist Maria – breathe new life into piano trio literature.

St. Petersburg Classic Ballet Theatre of Marina Medvetskaya

Feb. 10-12 — This young company features some of the finest ballet artists, drawn from the mature companies of St. Petersburg, including the Kirov and the Maly.

Kimberly Cann

Feb. 14 — Kimberly Cann grew up in Bermuda submerged in music, her talent becoming truly apparent once she hit her early teens. She is now embarking on a professional concert career.

The New Shanghai

Circus

Feb. 17-19 — People raved about the New Shanghai Circus in 2002, and they return to perform amazing feats of balance and athleticism. The New Shanghai Circus will give five performances in total.

Preservation Hall Jazz Band

Feb. 20-22 — Named after the famous hall in the French Quarter of New Orleans, this legendary jazz band embraces the music that is unique to New Orleans whilst remaining loyal to the cultural phenomenon that is Preservation Hall.

Ramsey Lewis

Feb. 24&25 — Jazz pianist Ramsey Lewis takes audiences back through his 40-year career, featuring familiar melodies of the past and new tunes that identify the present.

La Leche League – Advantages of Breastfeeding

Jan. 14 — La Leche League of Bermuda will hold a support group meeting for pregnant women and mothers at 10.30am in the First Floor Conference Room at King Edward Memorial Hospital. An accredited La Leche Laegue Leader will be present to answer questions and address concerns. Free literature and a lending library will be available, as well as light refreshments. Auditions

Jan. 16 & 18 — Talented young ladies between the ages of 13-17 are invited to present a two-minute talent presentation and prepare for a brief interview at the Ruth Seaton James Centre for the Performing Arts at CedarBridge Academy from 5-7pm. The successful girls will compete for the title of Miss Talented Teen Bermuda on May 6. For further information call 236-9610 or 505-8782

Poppa’s Baby Girl

Jan. 27 — BOJO presents Poppa’s Baby Girl at Dellwood Middle School featuring poet June Caisey, Vocalist Kristin White, Guitarist Dueane Dill, 5-year-old DeAndre Bell as well as the Learning Zone Ensemble and Bermuda’s Carnival Dancers. Doors open at 6.30pm with showtime at 7pm. Tickets are $15 and are available at the school’s office. Proceeds are in aid of Grace Edwards.

Jason Expedition — Mysteries of Earth and Mars

Jan. 3-31 — Join the international team of scientists, teachers and student Argonauts via the Bermuda Biological Station for Research as they examine the similarities and differences between Earth and Mars during live, interactive satellite broadcasts. Walking Club of Bda

Jan. 15 — The Walking Club will walk from Modern Mart, South Road, Paget for approximately 7 miles. Participants should meet at the parking lot at 7am for a 7.10am start.
