Contemporary Artist, Alison Saar
Feb. 23 — Through the use of archetypal images, Saar reaches out to audiences from backgrounds as culturally and ethnically diverse as her own. Her mother, well-known artist Betye Saar, has European, Native American, and African American ancestors; her father, Richard Saar, painter turned conservator, is of German and Scottish origin. Fragments of lore, myth and legend as well as the practices of the everyday are woven into Saar’s powerful images. There will be specialty drinks in association with Goslings. The lecture takes place at the Bermuda National Gallery in City Hall. There will be a 5:30pm reception for a 6pm lecture. Tickets are $15 for non-members, members $5.

Until Feb. 17 — Open at the Bermuda Society of Arts is the Schools Art Show in both the Onions and the Edinburgh Gallery. Third Floor, City Hall. 292-3824.
Until March 3 — Open at the Interim Gallery is a show of New Work by Jennifer Stobo-Keats. The Interim is open from Wednesday to Saturday from 10am-3pm. The gallery is located on the corner of King St. & Reid St. in Hamilton. Call 292-3028 for more information.

Feb. 5 — Open at the Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard is the Members’ Open, the show where BACD members get the chance to display their talents. The exhibition is juried. The BACD is open Monday to Sunday 10am-5pm. 234-2809.

Winter Exhibitions
Until March 31 — The Winter exhibitions feature a Charles Zuill Retrospective: The Science of Art, as well as pieces from the Bermuda Collection, the African Collection and the European Collection. The Bermuda National Gallery is open from 10am-4pm, Monday to Saturday. For more information call 295-9428.

La Leche League – Preparing for Birth and Breastfeeding
Feb.11 — La Leche League of Bermuda will hold a support group meeting for pregnant women and mothers at 10:30am in the First Floor Conference Room at King Edward Memorial Hospital. An accredited La Leche League Leader will be present to answer questions and address concerns. Free literature and a lending library will be available, as well as light refreshments. ZOOM AROUND THE SOUND
March 18 — The Bermuda Zoological Society will hold its 12th annual 7.2 Mile Fun Run/Walk/Roll around Harrington Sound. Entry forms are available at the Bermuda Aquarium Museum & Zoo Front Desk, The Sportseller, Winners Edge or download form at www.bamz.org. The entry fee is $10 by noon, Friday, March 17, 2006. The late fee is $15, late entries will be accepted when registration opens on Saturday, March 18, 2006. The event is sponsored by Nature Valley.

Tavares: The Love Jam
Feb. 11 — Attend at Pre-Valentines concert for lovers at the Mid-Ocean Ampitheater at the Fairmont Southampton. Performers include Tavares, Ari-Genae, Steve & the Antels, the Ufonics, the James Richardson Quartet, with MC Ed Ible. Doors open at 8pm with showtime at 9pm. Tickets are $85 and are available at People’s Pharmacy, Music Box, 20th Century Boutique.

Walking Club of Bda
Feb. 12 — The Walking Club will walk the PALS Charity Walk Dockyard to Hamilton. The ferry leaves Hamilton at 7am sharp. Participants should meet at the parking lot at 7am for a 7.10am start. The walks are free and all are welcome.

Feb. 10-12 — This young company features some of the finest ballet artists, drawn from the mature companies of St. Petersburg, including the Kirov and the Maly.
Kimberly Cann
Feb. 14 — Kimberly Cann grew up in Bermuda submerged in music, her talent becoming truly apparent once she hit her early teens. She is now embarking on a professional concert career.
The New Shanghai
Circus
Feb. 17-19 — People raved about the New Shanghai Circus in 2002, and they return to perform amazing feats of balance and athleticism. The New Shanghai Circus will give five performances in total.
Preservation Hall Jazz Band
Feb. 20-22 — Named after the famous hall in the French Quarter of New Orleans, this legendary jazz band embraces the music that is unique to New Orleans whilst remaining loyal to the cultural phenomenon that is Preservation Hall.
Ramsey Lewis
Feb. 24-25 — Jazz pianist Ramsey Lewis takes audiences back through his 40-year career, featuring familiar melodies of the past and new tunes that identify the present.
